The New Patriotic Party (NPP) says it will also staged a protest against the Electoral Commission (EC) should they welcome NDC's call for a forensic audit of the 2024 Provisional Register.

Despite their calls for a forensic audit, the EC has declined to conduct one, prompting the NDC to take to the streets on Tuesday, September 17.

The petition among other demands by the NDC are; a bi-partisan probe into the conduct of the EC leading to the recommendation of an independent forensic audit of the voters’ register, an immediate publication of forensic audit findings of the voters’ register, a re-exhibition of the voters’ register post forensic audit, and a five-day re-exhibition of the voter’s register after forensic audit is completed.

The EC a day after acknowledged receipt of "the petition submitted by the NDC"  and assured that it would offer a "response in the coming days".

In addition, the election management body informed the public "the process of producing the final register is in its early stages".

The EC expressed its willingness to engage with the NDC on their concerns.

However, the General Secretary of the NPP, Justin Kodua Frimpong in a statement on September 19  intimated that calls by the biggest opposition party for an audit is "needless and a deliberate attempt to create tensions in the country."

"It is obvious that recent agitations by the NDC pertaining to the 2024 Provisional Register are needless, deceptive, mischievous, and a deliberate attempt to create tensions in the country."

"If the EC accepts the position of the NDC, the NPP will also hit the streets," Justin Kodua Frimpong
