The Electoral Commission has clarified that no winner has been officially declared in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary primary held on Saturday, January 27, 2024, in the Yendi Constituency of the Northern Region.

Dr Serebour Quaicoe, the Director of Electoral Services at the EC, explained that unforeseen circumstances prevented the EC officials from declaring the results after voting had concluded.

According to him, during the counting of votes for one of the competitors, a group of young men disrupted the process, leading the officers to abandon the exercise.

Thus, as of now, no winner has been officially declared in the Yendi Constituency's parliamentary primary, he said in an interview with Joy FM.

The parliamentary race in Yendi was between the incumbent Member of Parliament, Farouk Aliu Mahama, and his rival, Hajia Abibata Shanni Mahama Zakariah.

In response to the confusion that marred the primary, Hajia Abibata Shanni has announced her intention to petition the National Executive Council of the NPP.

Meanwhile, 28 members on the Majority side lost their bid to contest in the December 2024 Elections in the just-ended primaries.
