Activa International Insurance has presented a cheque for GH¢30,000 to the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) towards its 42nd Awards Night in Accra.
The presentation according to the Managing Director of Activa, Solomon Lartey was part of the company's Corporate Social Responsibilities as well as supporting a credible event.
"The SWAG awards means a lot to us not only because it has become the most credible awards scheme in the sporting industry but also due to the fact that it offers us an opportunity as an insurance company to bring to the fore the essence of insurance in our nation building process,"he stated.

As the country marks the May 9 anniversary, he said it would be important for citizens to make insurance part of their lives at is would assist in such unfortunate circumstances.

"Today marks the anniversary of the May 9 Stadium Disaster. A dark day in the history of sports in Ghana. A day when innocent sports enthusiasts of our nation were injured and others stampeded to death. The scars of sadness and suffering still lingers on,"Mr Lartey lamented.

"So today we do not only mark the anniversary of May 9 with a cash donation to SWAG but also an offer of advice to the sporting fraternity, lovers of sports and the general Ghanaian public on insurance.

President of SWAG, Kwabena Yeboah expressed gratitude to Activa for the donation as it would go a long way to assist in the organization of a successful event on May 27.

"With your support over the years, SWAG has ensured the delivery of a master piece each night and each year and the 42nd edition at the Banquet Hall State House, Accra, will not be exception,"he stated.

This year, he said, the award winners would receive attractive prize packages, that will inspire them to continue with their exploits both on the local and international scene, having secured a sponsorship in this direction.
