The National Sports Authority (NSA) has issued a warning against the “Stop Galamsey” protests and other planned demonstrations during the Black Stars’ 2025 AFCON qualifying match against Sudan at the Accra Sports Stadium.
Last week, Ghanaian youths took to the streets of Accra for three days, protesting against illegal small-scale mining—commonly known as galamsey—which has led to the pollution of numerous rivers, endangering the safety of citizens.
rotest organizers have indicated their intention to continue the demonstrations at the stadium during the crucial match. Fans have been encouraged to wear their protest attire, prompting the NSA to respond with a strong warning just hours before kickoff.
In a letter endorsed by the NSA’s Public Relations department, the authority stated that any individual or fan found promoting a political agenda would face apprehension.
The NSA stated that the Confederation of African Football (CAF) strongly frowns upon such protests and will take drastic measures against anyone involved.
“Any individual or group of persons who openly display any political or pressure group paraphernalia, apparel or placards at the Accra Sports Stadium will be apprehended by the security apparatus who will be deployed in and around the facility. In this regard, football fans are advised to adhere to all the match day security regulations before, during and after the game to avoid any form of arrest or sanctions,” part of the statement read.
