Ghana’s hopes of qualifying for AFCON 2025 have been dealt a significant blow with a wave of withdrawals from the Black Stars team.
Eight players have withdrawn from the upcoming AFCON qualifiers against Angola and Niger due to various reasons.
They include,
• Inaki Williams: Hamstring injury
• Tariq Lamptey: Calf discomfort
• Jonas Adjetey: Injury setback
• Jerome Opoku: Chronic back pain
• Antoine Semenyo: Patella tendon injury
• Alexander Djiku: Hamstring injury
• Ibrahim Osman: Hamstring injury
• Joseph Painstil: Personal reasons
The Ghana Football Association in a statement published on Monday, November 11, 2024 said that they above mentioned players have been replaced by: Osman Bukari (Austin FC), Ransford Yeboah Koningsdorffer (Hamburger SV), Forson Amankwah (Norwich City), Terry Yegbe (IF Elfsborg), Ebenezer Annan (OFK Beograd) and Kingsley Schindler (Samsunspor).
To qualify for the Morocco 2025 tournament, Ghana must secure victories against Angola and Niger and hope Sudan drops points in their final matches.
Ghana will face Angola on Friday, November 15, in Luanda, before concluding the qualifiers at home against Niger at the Accra Sports Stadium on Monday, November 18.
