The Youth Employment Agency (YEA), in collaboration with G4S Security Services Ghana, has officially commissioned the first cohort of 100 young recruits under its landmark private security employment initiative in the Greater Accra Region.
The passing-out ceremony, held in Accra, marks a significant milestone in the agency’s mission to provide structured, sustainable employment opportunities for Ghana’s youth through strategic private sector partnerships.
Speaking at the event, the Chief Executive Officer of YEA, Mr. Malik Basintale, emphasized the overwhelming interest shown by young people across the country in response to the initiative.
“When we opened the portal for applications, within just one week, we received a staggering 9,184 applications—5,406 for Security Guard roles and 3,778 for Patrol Supervisors. This reaffirmed our belief that Ghanaian youth are willing, ready, and simply need the right opportunities,” he noted.
Mr. Basintale gave high praise to G4S Security Services for its strong commitment to youth development, describing the company as a model private sector partner in national development.
“G4S has gone beyond offering jobs — they are offering hope, dignity, and professional growth. We encourage them to expand this program and urge other companies to follow suit and partner with YEA in creating jobs across all sectors,” he said.
In the Greater Accra Region alone, 2,034 applications were received. Of these, 500 candidates were shortlisted and are being trained in cohorts of 100. The first group of trainees completed their program and are now ready for immediate deployment by G4S. The next batch is scheduled to begin training right after today’s ceremony.
Mr. Basintale also reiterated that the initiative is aligned with the vision of H.E. John Dramani Mahama, whose commitment to youth empowerment, skills development, and job creation remains central to national policy discourse.
The next regions scheduled to benefit from this initiative are the Ashanti and Western Regions, with similar recruitment and training exercises set to begin in the coming days.
The YEA-G4S collaboration stands as a shining example of how public-private partnerships can create lasting impact in tackling youth unemployment and transforming lives.
