Two of Ghana's most iconic and celebrated football stars, Abedi Ayew (Pele) and Asamoah Gyan, have been appointed as Ambassadors for the 2025 CAF African Schools Football Championship, set to take place in Accra later this April.
This exciting development is a testament to their enduring contributions to Ghanaian and African football.
Abedi Pele, a three-time African Footballer of the Year and former Captain of the Black Stars, Ghana's national football team, is renowned for his exceptional skill, vision, and leadership on the pitch. A former AFCON winner in 1982 led the team to the 1992 African Cup of Nations finals. Abedi Pele's success extended beyond Ghana, with a distinguished career in European club football, playing for teams like Marseille and Lille.
Goal-Scoring Legend Asamoah Gyan, Ghana's all-time leading scorer, is a household name in African football. With an impressive record of 51 goals in 109 appearances for the Black Stars, he has consistently demonstrated his prowess as a clinical finisher. Gyan's career has spanned multiple continents, with stints in the English Premier League, Serie A, and the UAE Pro League.
Asamoah Gyan was an ambassador for the 2nd edition of the CAF African Schools Football Championship.
Both Abedi Pele and Asamoah Gyan have been dedicated to giving back to their community and nurturing young football talents.
Abedi Pele's Football Club, Nania FC, has produced several talented players who have gone on to represent Ghana at various levels. Asamoah Gyan, on the other hand, has been involved in various charitable initiatives, including the Asamoah Gyan Foundation, which supports underprivileged children and promotes education and sports development.
As Ambassadors for the 2025 African Schools Championship, Abedi Pele and Asamoah Gyan will play a crucial role in promoting the tournament, inspiring young players, and fostering the growth of youth football in Africa.
Their involvement will undoubtedly bring immense value to the championship, and their presence will serve as a motivation to the participating children and their teams.
The 2025 African Schools Championship is scheduled to run from 21st-26th April 2025, at the University of Ghana Stadium in Accra.
