Ghana Black Stars 'B' lose to Namibia on penalties

Ghana's Black Stars B put up a gallant performance today to hold the Brave Warriors of Namibia to a gruelling 1-1 draw in the Dr. Hage Geingob Cup match in Windhoek, only to lose 1-4 on penalties.

The result saw the Namibians retaining the Dr. Hage Geingob Cup which they won last year following a 3-1 win over Zimbabwe.

The ceremonial match played annually in honour of the Namibian President was watched by many dignitaries, including Dr. Hage Geingob himself.

The Namibians, who were determined to retain the trophy, took a first-half lead to set the stadium alight with a delicate strike which Medeama goalkeeper, Eric Ofori Antwi, had no answers to.

However, the Ghanaians came back strongly in the second half after receiving instructions from Coach Maxwell Konadu and deservedly found the equaliser through lead striker, Shafiu Mumuni, of Ashantigold fame.

Ghana went ahead to score again late in the game through a shot by Kwesi Donsu from a Shafiu pass, but the referee strangely disallowed it.

Read also:Six Kotoko Players Withdraw From Black Stars B Team to Face Namibia When the penalty shootout was invoked, Appiah MacCarthy scored for Ghana, while Hearts defender, Fatau Mohammed, and Kwadwo Amoako of Eleven Wonders missed, leaving the Namibians to lift the trophy after converting all their four kicks.

The Ghanaian contingent, led by Fred Pappoe, is expected home on Monday.
