AshantiGold have a leg in the group stages of the CAF Confederation Cup after their hard-fought victory over RS Berkane.
The Miners defeated the North African side 3-2 at the Obuasi Len Clay Stadium in the first leg of the CAF Confederation Cup prelims.
After an opening exchanges, Eric Donkor opened the scoring at the Len Clay Stadium for Ashgold after his cross-shot dropped in at the far post. Captain Shafiu Mumuni doubled the lead after a mishap between Berkane's defender and gaolkeeper. Â
Ashantigold continued from where they left off and nearly had the third but Shafiu Mumuni’s strike was disallowed for offside.
RS Berkane came in strong after first half and they scored two quick goals within six minutes to level the score.
Mohammed Aziz reduces the deficit in the 51st minute before a low drive from Mohammed Farehane in the 57th minute brought the game even.
The Ghanaian side threw caution to the wind and their effort paid off as Amos Addai restored their lead to make the game 3-2.
Hamdi Laachir nearly equalize for the visitors in the 86th minute but his beautiful curl effort came off the crossbar.
AshantiGold remained resolute in the dying embers of the game, holding onto the slim margin to hold a first-leg advantage as head into the second leg in a fortnight in Rabat.
