Hockeyroos of Australia on Saturday, April 7, 2018, defeated Ghana 5-0 in the female hockey event in the ongoing Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia.

Australia looked a bit shabby in their opening game against Canada but eventually won 1-0, but were comfortable against Ghana who are ranked 30 in the world, 25 places behind the Hockeyroos.

Ghana were thrashed in their first game; and there was a clear signal they will struggle big time against Australia, with a 12-0 loss to New Zealand after they had lost 5-0 to Canada in their second game.

The tournament has not been fruitful for Ghana so far as Abeiku Jackson and Jason Arthur both missed out on a medal in swimming.

In the men’s 46-49kg boxing, Suleman Tetteh lost to India’s Amit. Tetteh lost on all the scorecards of the five judges: 30-26, 30-26, 30-37, 30-27 and 30-25.

Abdul Wahid Omar of Black bombers, one of Ghana’s biggest hopes of getting to the medal zone in boxing lost his first fight to Australian Harry Garside by a 5-0 unanimous decision at the 60kg weight division.
