Judging from the exploits of debutants, Thomas Agyapong, Rapheal Dwamena, Lumor Agbenyenu and Ebenezer Ofori, in Ghana's thrashing of Ethiopia on Sunday,it seems the likes of Agyemang Badu, Mubarak Wakaso, Christian Atsu and to a large extend Jordan Ayew will have to compete feverishly for a place in Kwesi Appiah's current Black Stars team.
Clearly, the days of monopoly are over and the Black Stars team have become very competitive with no player guaranteed of a place.
Every player would have to justify his inclusion in the team as the new boys have shown that their call-up was worth a while.
Kwesi Appiah reposed confidence in the new boys and indeed they did not disappoint the coach who went into his first game after making a return to lead the national team, three years since he was sacked.
Left-footed Ebenezer Ofori was inspirational on the day with his stunning movements on the ball and dazzled the defense of Ethiopia with his footworks.
He was solid behind the attackers and climaxed his splendid performance on the day with a thunderbolt of a strike to score the third goal for Ghana and his first international game.
The Stuttgard midfielder was instrumental in the team's qualification to the German Bundesliga and expected to play a leading role in the team's campaign next season.
The player's ability to take on opponents and strike at long range could make it difficult for Christian Atsu to continue enjoying the monopoly he used to enjoy in the team.
Another debutant who would make things difficult for some regular players in the striking department is Raphael Dwamena.
Dwamena was selected ahead of Jordan Ayew and Abdul Majeed Waris and he repaid the confidence reposed in him by scoring two goals and providing an assist.
He was said to have scored several goals at training and netted a brace in the Black Stars' friendly match against Asokwa Deportivo ahead of the game on Sunday.
He was a thorn in the flesh of the Ethiopia defense and he tormented and created space in the area of the opponents. He was also hardworking and followed up on strikes in order to get rebounds, which got him all two goals.
He benefited from Dede Ayew's rebound to score his first goal early in the second half before pouncing on a loose ball while lurking in the area of the Ethiopian defense to score his second goal.
Such a player has a very good future ahead as far as becoming the player to be paired with Asamoah Gyan upfront or possibly becoming the first choice striker subsequently.
Thomas Agyepong also had an incredible debut and managed to set up the first goal for Gyan to make history as the nation's all time scorer.
He was also brilliant on the day and could fit into the Black Stars first team if he continues with his current display. That leaves Agyemang Badu to 'fight' for a place in the team as the young chap who plays as a winger could also be used in central defense.
Mubarak Wakaso's absence in the team was not missed courtesy the exploits of Thomas Partey with Agyepong and Ofori in the tick of affairs.
Lumor Agbenyenu is also settling at left-back in the absence of Baba Rahman while Richard Ofori was comfortable between the sticks for the first time.
The new boys have proven to be a force to reckon with and determined to settle in the team. Competition has duly taken its place in the team and serves as a step in the right direction in Kwesi Appiah's second coming.
The days of complacency and monopoly are over in the Black Stars and players would be made to fight for a place in the team.
