Former Ghana assistant coach George Boateng has been appointed first-team coach at English Championship side Coventry City.
The 48-year-old steps back into management after his dismissal from the Ghana national team in February following their disappointing campaign at the Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.
Boateng will join Rhys Carr as the newest member of Coventry City’s technical team, with both appointments taking effect immediately. Coventry City is set to begin pre-season training this week in preparation for the upcoming season.
Boateng, a former Netherlands international, has a history with Coventry City, having played for the club during the 1998/99 season. During his time there, he made 57 appearances and scored seven goals, including a memorable brace against Aston Villa.
Manager Mark Robins expressed his enthusiasm for the new additions to the coaching staff, saying, “We are very pleased to welcome George and Rhys to Coventry City. They both impressed us during the extensive recruitment process for this important role and each brings key skills to the football department.”
