Former Brighton and Albion coach Chris Hughton has landed in Ghana for the vacant Black Stars coaching job.

According to reports, the 63-year-old and his representatives have met some top officials of the ruling government in Accra over the possibility of getting the Black Stars coaching job.

The Ghana Football Association sacked Milovan Rajevac earlier this week, following a dismal performance at the Africa Cup of Nations. Ghana finished bottom of Group C, with their solitary point coming in a draw with Gabon.

The Serbian, Rajevac had only been appointed in September. This was his second term, and far less successful than the first which saw him lead Ghana to the brink of a World Cup semi-final in 2010.

The former Republic of Ireland defender Chris Hughton has been out of work since September, when he was fired by Nottingham Forest having won just a single point from their first seven games.

Since then, Forest have recovered under his replacement Steve Cooper, knocked Arsenal out of the FA Cup and are just one point off the playoff spots in the Championship.

Hughton has deep connections to Ghana, given that his father was born here.

However, he is just one of a number of contenders for the vacant Ghana job.

Former Netherlands midfielder George Boateng - now a youth coach at Aston Villa - ex-Ghana midfielder Ibrahim Tanko, and Borussia Dortmund assistant coach Otto Addo are all in the running.
