Former striker, Ibrahim Tanko to replace Grant as Black Stars coach

39-year-old former Ghana striker, Ibrahim Tanko is set to replace Black Stars coach Avram Grant after his contract expires in February next year.

Sports Minister Nii Lantey Vanderpuye is a well-known for his support for a local coach handling the national team and, according to GHANAsoccernet.com, has held informal talks with Tanko to take over from the Israeli after the 2017 AFCON.

The former Borussia Dortmund striker has a good enough coaching resume having worked as an assistant to German trainer, Volker Finke at former club SC Freiburg, and FC Köln both in Germany and Urawa Red Diamonds in Japan.

He was a member of Volker Finke's backroom staff during his time as the head coach of Cameroon's Indomitable Lions.
