Ghana's Frank Akuffo Awuku came second in the longest road race of the “la route de lest†tour ongoing in Ivory Coast.
Akufo who went into the competition after winning the Accra Cycling Challenge is currently replicating his form in the event,making the nation proud.

The race which covered a distance of 165km(from Bouake to Daoukro) saw Akuffo put up a splendid piece of sprinting to urge close to the ultimate yellow jersey which stands for the best by time cyclist.

Ivorian Daniel Kabre is currently holding the yellow jersey with two minutes ahead of Akuffo who would be hoping to close the gap in coming days.

Vice President of the Ghana Cycling Federation, Teye Doku praised the cyclist for his efforts. He believes that, with more competitions, Ghana could become the best in Africa considering the exploits of the team at the event.

"We need more competitions at the local level to prepare cyclists for such international events as there are talented young riders who could become the best,"he stated.

With the level and consistency displayed by the Ghanaian cyclists, the Vice President is optimistic that they would bring home the ultimate jersey.Â

The competition ends on Friday with a closing ceremony where distinguished cyclists would be rewarded for the exploits.

Ghana is represented by six cyclists including Frank Akuffo, Anthony Boakye, Abdul Razak Abdul Mumuni, Isaac Sackey, Abdul Razak Umar and Abdul Rahman.
