Football legend, George Oppong Weah has debunked claims that he has a Ghanaian root though he has spent time in the country as a young player.

The former World Player of the Year, added that, he has a house in Ghana but not a Ghanaian as suggested by people.

"Ghana played a major role in my upbringing especially doing the war in Liberia when our national team was based in Ghana at the time,"he said on Starr Chat.

Ghana he said, is a very good place to be and he is very close to many people in the country especially football players and officials.

With his middle name "Oppong", which is a common Ghanaian name, many in the country have suggested that the football star turned politician, has Ghanaian parent(s). But Mr. Weah said none of his parents are Ghanaians.

George Weah expressed his sympathy with the Kumasi Asante Kotoko team for their recent involvement in a road accident.

He said, those are some of the dangers in the game and was hopeful the team would get back strongly to entertain their fans.
