Inaki Williams played a key role in Athletic Club’s commanding 4-1 win over Espanyol at San Mamés on Saturday, scoring twice to lead his team to victory.
The Ghana striker who has been in impressive form this season, set the tone for Los Leones’ dominant performance with two first-half goals that effectively sealed the match.
The opener came in the 22nd minute, following a smooth team play involving Álex Berenguer, allowing Williams to finish calmly from close range. Just two minutes later, his younger brother Nico Williams provided a perfect assist, slicing through Espanyol’s defense to set up Inaki for a clinical finish at the near post, doubling Athletic’s lead.
Even without their top scorer, Oihan Sancet, Athletic remained sharp and continued to create multiple opportunities. Berenguer added a fourth goal early in the second half, solidifying a stellar performance that saw the home side control the game from start to finish.
Espanyol managed a late consolation goal from Álvaro Tejero, but it wasn’t enough to alter the outcome.
Inaki Williams’ two goals bring his season tally to five, as Ernesto Valverde’s team keeps their sights set on qualifying for European competition next season.
