Leicester City’s return to the English Championship has been confirmed after a narrow 1-0 loss to Liverpool at the King Power Stadium, sealing a bitter end to their 2024/25 Premier League campaign.

The defeat is a major blow for Ghanaian internationals Jordan Ayew and Abdul Fatawu Issahaku, who had both hoped to secure their futures in England’s top flight.

Trent Alexander-Arnold scored the decisive goal in the 76th minute, dealing the final blow to Leicester’s survival hopes. While Liverpool edge closer to the league title, Leicester face the harsh reality of life in the second tier, just one year after earning promotion.

Fatawu, who was instrumental in Leicester’s promotion last season, saw his Premier League campaign disrupted by injury. The 21-year-old winger featured in just 11 matches, registering two assists before being sidelined. He is expected to make a full return by August 2025.

Jordan Ayew, who joined the Foxes from Crystal Palace for €5.90 million last summer, has scored four goals in 24 appearances. However, he was an unused substitute in the decisive clash against Liverpool. With his contract running until 2026, the experienced forward may play a key role in Leicester’s push for immediate promotion.

For both Ayew and Fatawu, relegation marks a setback, but their quality and resilience could prove crucial as Leicester regroup for the 2025/26 campaign.
