Asante Kotoko fan Yaw Frimpong, popularly known as ‘Nana Pooley,’ who tragically lost his life after being stabbed during a Ghana Premier League match, was laid to rest on Thursday, March 6, 2025, at the Ahafo Kukuom Royal Mausoleum in Kumasi.

The funeral, held at Heroes Park within the Baba Yara Stadium, was attended by family, friends, football administrators, and supporters from various football clubs across the country.

The President of the Ghana Football Association, Kurt Okraku, Vice-President Mark Addo, along with Executive Council members and Regional Football Association Chairmen, were also present to pay their respects.

During the ceremony, Christopher Demenya, Chairman of Asante Kotoko’s National Circles Council, urged all Kotoko supporters to remain calm and respectful during this difficult time.

“I urge all Kotoko supporters to remain calm and respectful as we mourn the loss of our beloved Nana Pooley,” Christopher Demenya said in an interview with Original FM.

He also called on the fans to fill the stadium when the club returns to action on Sunday in the Premier League against Legon Cities.

“After the funeral on Sunday, we ask all supporters to fill the stadium as we pay our final respects to Pooley. Let’s come together to give him a fitting send-off.”

“Your presence and support mean the world to us, and we’re counting on you to make this a memorable farewell for our dear Pooley. Let’s show our love and appreciation for him one last time.

“Thank you, and may Pooley’s soul rest in eternal peace,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Ghana FA, together with the Police and other relevant authorities are working tirelessly to apprehend those responsible for this tragedy.
