Asante Kotoko has confirmed the tragic death of a fan who was stabbed during violent incidents following their Ghana Premier League match against Nsoatreman.
The game, held at Nana Konamansah Park in Nsoatre, ended in a 1-0 loss for Kotoko after a late goal by substitute Gabriel Bonnah.
However, the violence off the pitch has overshadowed the match result.
Kotoko revealed that tensions were high from the moment they arrived at the stadium, with certain sections of the home crowd displaying hostility.
The situation quickly escalated as missiles were repeatedly thrown at the Kotoko bench, creating a dangerous atmosphere for both players and officials.
The club’s head of media was injured after being struck by a flying object, suffering a serious ear injury.
The violence intensified when supporters stormed the pitch, attacking Kotoko goalkeeper Mohammed Camara while continuing to throw objects at him.
Amid the chaos, a fan was fatally stabbed and later died in the hospital, according to Kotoko’s statement.
The club has strongly condemned the violence and is calling for a full investigation.
