Coach Kwesi Appiah has stepped down temporarily from his position as an Executive Council member of the Ghana Football Association (GFA).
This decision comes after the Confederation of African Football (CAF) officially requested that he resign from one of his roles before the upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers, where Ghana will face Sudan.
Appiah currently serves as the head coach of the Sudanese national team while also holding a seat on the GFA’s Executive Council.
CAF’s request aims to avoid any potential conflicts of interest.
In response to the communication from CAF, Appiah’s spokesperson, Asante Forkuo, stated that he has stepped aside from his Executive Council role until the end of November 2024.
Forkuo mentioned, “Coach Kwasi Appiah has temporarily stepped aside as Executive Council member of The GFA until the end of November 2024. In response to CAF copied GFA, he cited conflict of interest as the reason. Since the start of AFCON qualifiers, Appiah has excused himself from all EXCO activities.”
Kwesi Appiah was elected to the GFA Executive Council representing Asante Kotoko.
The first match in the doubleheader against Sudan is scheduled for Thursday, October 10, at the Accra Sports Stadium, with the return leg taking place on October 14 at the Martyrs of February Stadium in Libya.
