Soccer Maestro,Abedi Ayew Pele joined hundreds of Ghanaians at the Junction Mall, Nungua Barrier to launch the largest sports store in West Africa, Decathlon in Accra over the weekend.
The launch also saw Decathlon attempt to break the world record for most accurate football passes but were unsuccessful.
The store with the Sports for All initiative would provide affordable and easy access to sports equipment to Ghanaians.
According to Abedi Pele, the initiative would ensure that sports is developed in the country as it would make every equipment available.
The three-time African best player was impressed with the facility saying the Decathlon Sports store was the finest in Africa.
“Decathlon has brought Europe to Ghana, what am seeing here gives opportunity to our youth. If you look at the prices it give the opportunity to the youth and kids to afford,â€he stated.
He added that “Decathlon is giving us all the opportunity to do the sports we want to do. In Ghana we have only football that people are interested in, but this gives us a huge opportunity to do boxing, athletics, basketball and varieties of things.“I’m so glad that our kids are going to have the choice to really make a choice in the sports that they want to do.â€
West Africa’s largest sports store, occupies a 1,250 square foot space and the outfit has pledged to attempt breaking the world record again in subsequent days with about 700 footballers.
The current world record of accurate football passes stands at 596 accurate passes held by Qatar Petrochemical Company, (QAPCO).
