Former Asante Kotoko player, Mallam Yahaya is entreating Ghanaians to support coach Kwesi Appiah as he takes his troops to AFCON 2019 in search of Ghana's lost glory.
Ghana have failed to win the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) since 1982, despite winning it 4 times (1963, 1965, 1978 and 1982) and having appeared in the final on three occasions, after they last conquered the continent in Libya.
The 32nd edition of the continental showpiece to be staged in Egypt from June 21 - July 19 with an increase in teams from 16 to 24.
Despite the tall mountain for Kwesi Appiah to climb, Mallam Yahaya opines that the Black Stars gaffer who is the only local coach in the history of Ghana football to qualify the Black Stars to the FIFA World Cup in 2014 is the image of local coaches in the country and success for him in Egypt will be beneficial to the upcoming ones.
"Let's all Ghanaians rally behind Coach Akwasi Appiah to win the AFCON 2019 because it would be good and create opportunities for we the Ghanaian coaches to get the National teams to manage in future, he told Ash FM
"Akwasi Appiah is a very good Coach and I know with the help of his technical team and the support from Ghanaians, Afcon 2019 will be ours, he added.
