Manchester United have told Jose Mourinho he can splash the cash in the January transfer window.

The Red Devils have had a hit and miss start to the campaign under Mourinho. Manchester United are currently eighth in the Premier League, 12 points behind leaders and arch-rivals Manchester City.

However, according to the Daily Star, Mourinho will be allowed to spend in January to bolster his squad.
They say despite United’s worries about their share prices falling, Mourinho has been told by the club he can make signings in the New Year.

The Star add that Mourinho is desperate to land Atletico Madrid’s Diego Godin, Lorenzo Pellegrini of Roma and out-of-favor Chelsea defender Gary Cahill. Mourinho has cut a frustrated figure this season after a below-par summer transfer window.

The Special One urged United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward to sign a new center-half to bolster the back four.

United were in for Godin, Leicester’s Harry Maguire and Tottenham star Toby Alderweireld. However, Woodward refused to back his manager, instead signing Fred, Diogo Dalot and Lee Grant.

United’s share prices plummeted yesterday, with around £300m coming off the club’s value.

It’s claimed the shares have dropped due to uncertainty in the market.

Red Devils chief Woodward recently boasted about United’s financial power, hinting they will spend in January.

"On the pitch we remain well positioned in the Champions League," he said

"And although we have had a mixed start to our domestic campaign, the squad and the manager are fully united in their determination to regain our momentum in the Premier League.

"Our financial strength enables us to continue to attract and retain top players and to invest in our academy, as we look to drive the success on the pitch that the club and our fans expect.

“We remain on track to deliver our record full-year revenue guidance, underpinning our long-term, strategic plan to create sustainable growth across all areas of the club."

United are back in action this weekend, with Mourinho’s men hosting Crystal Palace on Saturday afternoon
