Thousands of individuals from the various political parties turned up for the ‘Ashaiman Stand for Peace’ walk held on Friday.

The mega walk which was aimed at preaching peace ahead of the elections started at the Newtown Junction through the principal streets of Ashaiman and ended at the town park where dignitaries and organizers took turns to speak with participants on the need to ensure peace during and after the elections.

Head of the Ashaiman Divisional Council, Nii Annang Adjor asked the youth to ensure they desist from violence and keep the unity and peace in the country.

“It is exciting to see the youth coming out in their numbers to engage in healthy activities aimed at ensuring peace in the country,” he stated.

He added that, such events would be maintained to ensure that youth are brought together in a sporting atmosphere and also preach peace.

Adding his voice, National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Aspirant, Ernest Norgbey said the walk was a step in the right direction and must be supported by all.

He said, the NDC would always join hands with any initiative that is geared at promoting peace in the area and Ghana as a whole.

Participants were engaged in several sporting activities after the walk including football, volleyball, ludo, as well as scrabbles.

Trophies were presented to winners and other distinguished participants after the highly patronized event.

According to one of the organizers, Mr. Jesse Antwi Bosiako, it was a successful event and more of such events would be held subsequently to keep the youth away from violence.
