President of the Ghana Weightlifting Federation, Ben Nunoo Mensah has won the race to become the new President of the Ghana Olympic Committee(GOC).
Mr. Nunoo Mensah polled 33 votes out of 61 votes cast during Congress in Accra on Wednesday while his opponent, incumbent Prof. Francis Dodoo had 28 votes.
The elections supervised by the Electoral Commission of Ghana went on smoothly as the new President and other elected executives were immediately sworn into office to take over from the outgoing ones.Â

Other executives who were sworn into office include, Paul Atchoe who amassed 32 votes to beat Deborah Cubagee for the position of First Vice President. His opponent had 29 votes.Â

For the Second Vice President position, Michael Nunoo emerged victorious with 32 votes as against the 29 recorded by Emmanuel Tetteh.Â

Evans Yeboah had an impressive 44 votes to become the Third Vice President as against the 17 polled by George Lamptey of the Ghana Boxing Federation.Â

Richard Akpokavie retained his seat as Secretary General after winning with 36 votes while his contender Mohammed Sahnoon had 26 votes.Â

In a closely contested race, Richard Quarcoo had 31 votes to become the Assistant Secretary General while his opponent Joseph Mingle had 30 votes.Â

Christopher Essilfie was beating in the Treasurer race by Frederick Lartey Otu who had 32 votes while Essilfie had 29 votes.Â

Theophilus Wilson recorded 31 votes to become the Assistant Treasurer after beating Kenneth Arthur and Bernard Quartey who had 26 and four votes respectively.Â

The five elected representatives for Olympic Sports include Herbert Mensah, Obo Addy, Mawuko Afadzinu, Albert Frimpong and Isaac Duah with Emmanuel Nikoi settling for the representative for the none Olympic sport.Â

Joseph Kwasi Ogah would be the representative of the National Federation affiliated to the GOC while the three other members are, Melvin Brown, Â George Owusu Ansah and Jerry Amert Shaib.Â

In his speech, Â newly elected President pledged to work with all stakeholders to develop sports in the country adding that "GOC is for the country and we would all work together to promote sports".Â
Â
He said, he would rely on the outgoing executives for advice with regards to the running of the affairs of the GOC.Â

Prof. Dodoo conceded defeat and also expressed appreciation to all Ghanaians and sports enthusiast who supported him while in office.Â
