Thomas Partey found the back of the net, but his effort wasn’t enough to secure all three points as Arsenal were held to a 1-1 draw by Brentford on Saturday afternoon at the Emirates Stadium.
Fresh off a commanding win over Real Madrid earlier in the week, the Gunners came into the match hoping to maintain their momentum.
Mikel Arteta’s side thought they had broken the deadlock early on when Kieran Tierney headed home a cross from Ethan Nwaneri. However, the goal was ruled out after a VAR review confirmed Tierney was offside.
Despite dominating possession and chances in the first half, Arsenal were unable to find a breakthrough before the break.
The deadlock was finally broken in the 61st minute, with Thomas Partey slotting home after a brilliant setup by Declan Rice. It marked Partey’s fourth goal of the season for the North London club.
Brentford, however, responded just 13 minutes later. Nathan Collins headed the ball back into the Arsenal box, where Yoane Wissa reacted sharply to flick the ball past the keeper, leveling the score.
With the draw, Arsenal missed a chance to close the gap in the title race. Liverpool now have the opportunity to go 13 points clear when they host West Ham on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Arsenal’s attention shifts to their crucial Champions League second leg against Real Madrid in the Spanish capital on Wednesday.
