Uruguay managed to snatch a narrow 1-0 win over Egypt in the second Group A game of the Russia 2018 World Cup.
Egypt were the better of the two sides in the opening exchanges and had few half chances but failed to make the most out of it.
Uruguay came back strongly at the latter part of the first half but also failed to break the deadlock with half chances falling to Luis Suarez and Ederson Cavani.
The first half ended 0-0.
A Salah-less Egypt were energized in the second half as they searched for the opener.
Uruguay were more composed and nearly opened the scoring in the 89th minute when Cavani's half volley was parried away by Egyptian goalkeeper El Shenawy.
Uruguay's pesistence paid off in the 90th minute as Atletico Madrid defender Jose Maria Gimenez rose highest to head in a Carlos Sanchez freekick.
The Uruguayans held on to win 1-0.

Egypt will play World Cup host Russia as Uruguay take on Saudi Arabia in the second group games.
