Senegal is the first African country at Russia 2018 to win a game as they beat Poland 2-1 in a Group H game.
After losses to Egypt, Morocco, Nigeria and Tunisia, Senegal have now gotten Africa's first three points in this year's World Cup.
The game which got off to a slow start burst into life in the 37th minute when Everton midfielder Idrissa Gueye's shot deflected off Polish defender Thiago Cionek into his own net.
Senegal took a deserving lead and maintained it till halftime.
The Second half started on a rather pacey note with both teams attacking with real purpose but Senegal scored their second.
A back pass from Poland defender Krychowiak was stolen by Niang who rounded the goalkeeper and scored in the 60th minute.
Poland press to reduce the deficit but it came late in the game as Krychowiak made up for his earlier error by scoring in the 86th minute.
Poland piled pressure on Senegal as they searched for the equalizer but the Teranga Lions held their own to record a victory.
