Portugal were held to a 1-1 draw against Iran which ensures they finish second in group B at the ongoing world cup in Russia 2018.
Portugal started on a front foot and made the first attempt on target when Christiano Ronaldo drifted into the box with his right foot and struck a low shot straight to the Iranian goalkeeper.
Portugal changed their approach by frequently cutting inside to make an effort which was eventually rewarded courtesy Quaresma.
Quaresma skipped around two defenders and curled an absolute screamer off his right foot in the top-left corner from 18 yards
In the second half, on the 53rd mins, VAR awarded a penalty in favour of Portugal after Christiano Ronaldo cut into the opposition box, and went down with a barge from Ezatolahi.
Christiano Ronaldo stepped up , unfortunately not able to add up to his tally for the golden boot race .The Iranian goalkeeper read Ronaldo's low effort and dived to his left to grab it.
Ronaldo was yellow-carded for bringing down Pouraliganji as the pair wrestled for a ball out on the left wing, deep in Iranian half .
It took the assistance of VAR to look for a possible red card after replays show that the Portugal captain caught the defender on the face with his hand.
Portugal dominated possession but did not create any decent opportunity.
At the die minutes of the game, the referee awarded a penalty for a handball against Cedric following VAR assistance. The substitute, Ansarifard, struck the ball high into the roof of the netting on the right side to make it 1-1.

The results ensured the qualification of Portugal and Spain . Spain after drawing 2-2 with Morroco topped group B and will meet Russia in group A while Portugal after finishing second will face Uruguay.
