Three times Olympics women's doubles champions, Venus and Serena Williams have been eliminated in the first round of this year's tournament.
The sisters seeking their fourth Olympic gold for the United States were stunned in the first round by the Czech pairing of Lucie Safarova and Barbora Strycova.
Seeded first at the tournament, the Americans were  beaten 6-3, 6-4 in 93 minutes by the CzechS who were reportedly paired only at last notice.
The defeat brought and end to the Williams sisters' 15-0 career record in the Olympics, having won gold in 2000, 2008 and 2012.
