Kumasi Asante Kotoko beat Accra Hearts of Oak 2-0 in the first leg of the Super 2 friendly games at the Baba Yara Stadium.
The two sides geared up for the friendly and were eager to put smiles on the faces of their fans with a win.
It was Hearts of Oak that started the brighter of the two sides having lots of possession and half chances.
Kotoko warmed themselves into the game and their big moment came in the 39th minute when Hearts goalkeeper Ernest Sowah parried a shot into the path of Burkinabe import Songne Yacouba who calmly slotted it in to give the Porcupine Warriors the lead.
Hearts searched for the equalizer but Kotoko held on till the half-time whistle.
The second half started with Kotoko on top and their high pressing led to Hearts defender Robert Addo committing a foul that led to a second yellow card and was eventually sent off.
That benefited Kotoko who got their second goal of the day as Yacouba made no mistake to beat onrushing Hearts goalkeeper Ben Mensah to make it 2-0.
