Stephen Amankonah scored the winning goal in the 30th minute, giving Berekum Chelsea a hard-fought 1-0 victory over rivals Bechem United in the quarterfinal of the MTN FA Cup.
The all-Premier League clash lived up to expectations, with an action-packed end-to-end game at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
Berekum Chelsea fielded a well-drilled side led by Stephen Amankonah, with Mezack Afriyie, Jona Attuquaye, and Zackaria Fuseini also starting.
Stephen Amankonah had the game's first shot on target in the 10th minute, but Aziz Adaari of Bechem United made a fine save. Bechem United was forced into an early substitution, replacing Yaw Annor with Cephas Martey in the 25th minute.
Stephen Amankonah then scored the opener, drilling a bullet from inside the box that beat Bechem United goalkeeper Aziz Adaari.
Berekum Chelsea grew in confidence after the goal, controlling the game but failing to add to their tally as they ended the first half with a slim margin.
The game became more physical in the second half as both sides pressed for a goal. Mezack Afriyie wasted a wonderful effort in the 68th minute, while Edwin Asamoah also smashed an effort wide inside the 82nd minute.
Bechem United threw men forward in search of an equalizer, but Berekum Chelsea held on to win the contest. The result sends Berekum Chelsea to the semifinals of the 2024/25 MTN FA Cup.
