New Gambian President Adama Barrow has changed the official name of the tiny West African country.
The former President, Yahya Jammeh in 2015 by the addition of the word "Islamic", renamed the country as The Islamic Republic of Gambia
With 90%Â Muslims and the rest being Christians and animists, the name change was seen as a reflection of the country's population.Â
But in his first major decision as head of state, Mr Barrow has opted to revert to the country's original name at independence saying it will now be The Republic of Gambia.
Speaking at a news conference, Mr Barrow promised to ensure Freedom of press and announced that his Cabinet members will have to declare their assets before their assumption of office.
