The Cocoa Carriers Association has instructed its members at the Tema, Takoradi, and Kumasi depots of the Cocoa Marketing Company Limited (CMC) to begin an indefinite sit-down strike today, Monday, October 7, 2024.

The strike is in response to unresolved issues surrounding their conditions of service.

This marks the second time the association has taken industrial action in recent years. In 2022, members went on strike demanding better wages and improved working conditions, which resulted in thousands of cocoa bags being left unattended at CMC warehouses, significantly impacting the supply chain.

The National Chairman of the Cocoa Carriers Association, Raymond Atanga Abobiga, reiterated that the strike would go on until their demands are fully addressed.

“We are going to report at work but will be at the gate of the various warehouses and then we are not going to work until they attend to our needs and our demands,” he today Citi News.

Mr. Abobiga made it clear that their fight is not directed at any individuals but is a pursuit of fair treatment for their members. “I want the management of COCBOD and our directors to know that we are not against an individual and that we are fighting a just cause,” he noted.
