Oil and gas reserves from exploration activities at the Jubilee oil field will be stored at the Tweneboa, Enyenra and Ntomme (TEN) field.
The development follows the announcement in June last month by Tullow that it will shut down production at the Jubilee oil fields for at least a three months period, beginning from the last quarter of the year - 2017: a decision which will affect gas supply for electricity generation across the country.
Speaking to the media - Energy Minister, Boakye Agyarko said the plan to move the reserves from Jubilee to TEN is aimed at reducing the possible impact the anticipated prolonged shutdown might have on power supply in the Ghana.
He noted that the TEN fields is not dependent on the FPSO Kwame Nkrumah – the primary vessel linked with the Jubilee oil field, hence TEN will not be affected by the planned repairs or maintenance activities.
He reassured the public that the shutdown of the Jubilee oil field will not result in another trend of consistent power cuts across the nation.
The Jubilee field’s production as at June 2017 (end of the first half of the year) stood at an average of 83,900 barrels of crude oil per day.
