After seventeen years since its introduction, Ghana has ratified the Montreal Convention of 1999, which addresses issues of aviation passenger rights and protection.
Provisions of the Montreal Convention applies to domestic air travel as regards to the rights of passengers, compensation in cases damage or loss of baggage, among others.
To discuss this provisions and other recommendations to improve the country’s aviation sector, the GCAA is organizing a workshop with stakeholders (the general public) to be held on September 13th, 2017 at the Ghana Civil Aviation Training Academy (GATA) located at the Kotoka International Airport, Accra.
Currently, the provisions have been incorporated into the Second Schedule of the Ghana Civil Aviation (Amendment) Act, 2016 (Act 906).
In addition, the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) has prepared a Draft Passenger Rights and Consumer Protection Directives which deals with consumer protection issues as well as stipulated compensation in events such as overbooking, denied boarding, delays, flights cancellation, etc.
These documents have been published on the GCAA’s website to aid in educating the general public.
