Ghanaian companies to be showcased at Dubai Expo 2020

The Ghana Investment Promotion Centre, GIPC, has disclosed that new and profitable companies which will emerge from the government’s ‘one-district-one-factory’ initiative will be showcased at the forth coming global economic Expo.

The Expo scheduled for 2020, will take place at Dubai in the United Arab Emirates and the government in an effort to guarantee the sustainability of the factories/companies set-up under the one-district-one-factory programme, have been involved in various stakeholder-engaging activities to make the ambitious industrialization and jobs initiative a success.

Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Investment Promotions Centre (GIPC), Yofi Grants said it was critical for government through the GIPC to seek innovative ways of attracting potential investors to the country & and its businesses.

“The Expo 2020 Dubai will be a great opportunity to showcase what they do. Tourism, agro and agro-processing without a doubt are some of the sectors we need to showcase”, he said.

Mr. Grants pointed out that the country has, “significant mineral assets which we also need to highlight at the Expo 2020 Dubai”.

At the moment, only one company has been launched under the one-district-one-factory initiative; Ekumfi Pineapple Project, with a direct employment potential of about 6,000 direct jobs but the GNPC is optimistic there will be several other running before the expo.

Themed, ‘Connecting Minds, Creating the Future’: Expo 2020 Dubai is the first World Expo to be held in the Middle East, Africa and South Asia (MEASA) region. Over 25 million visitors are expected to attend the 6-month long event, with 70% expected to be international visitors, the highest proportion in Expo history.

So far, over 150 countries have signed up for participation in the Expo 2020 Dubai including: Italy, the United Kingdom, Indonesia, France, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Slovenia, Luxembourg , Greece, Tunisia, Kazakhstan & Chile as well as several others from Africa like Burkina Faso, Cabo Verde, Central African Republic, Cuba, Czech Republic, Democratic Republic of Congo, Liberia, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Togo, etc.
