National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament for Amenfi Central, Peter Kwakye-Ackah, has withdrawn his independent candidacy for the 2024 election.
The announcement, made in a press statement dated November 18, 2024, cited the recent High Court and Electoral Commission ruling, which confirmed the NDC’s candidate Joano Cudjoe as eligible to contest, as a primary reason for his decision.
According to Kwakye-Ackah, the High Court’s decision effectively resolved the issues that prompted his initial decision to run independently.
He expressed his gratitude to the party’s elders and other leaders for their guidance, stating that their counsel ultimately influenced his decision to prioritize the unity and interests of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) over personal ambition.
“I wish to inform the good people of Amenfi Central and the general public of my decision to withdraw my independent candidature from the 2024 Amenfi Central Parliamentary election forthwith,” Kwakye-Ackah stated in his release.
In closing, he reaffirmed his commitment to the NDC and expressed optimism for the future, extending well-wishes for the NDC’s success in Amenfi Central and nationwide.

PRESS STATEMENT
18TH NOVEMBER, 2024
WITHDRAWAL FROM AMENFI CENTRAL PARLIAMENTARY ELECTION.
I wish to inform the good people of Amenfi Central and the general public of my decision to withdraw my independent candidature from the 2024 Amenfi Central Parliamentary election forthwith.
Under the decision by the High Court and the Electoral Commission to clear the NDC’s parliamentary candidate for this year’s election, I believe that my reasons for filing to contest the election as an independent candidate are no longer tenable.
I would like to thank the Elders of the party and other leading members of the party for their invaluable counsel that has led to this decision in the supreme interest of the party.
Long live the NDC, long live Amenfi Central, long live Ghana.………………………………….
HON. PETER YAW KWAKYE-ACKAH
