SONA2019: 20,000 jobs to be created through solving sanitation problems

President Akufo-Addo at the State of the Nation address, SONA2019 has said over 20,000 direct jobs will be created through government's effort in solving the perennial sanitation problems in the country.

According to him, a recycling facility will be built at Agbogbloshie in Accra with regional and district collections centres that will provide over 20,000 jobs for Ghanaians.

"We also tackling the issue of electronic waste head-on, In August 2018, I launched a national e-waste program to mark the commencement of two key provisions of the hazardous in the e-waste control and Management Act, Act 917.

"These provisions empower the service provider to verify, assess and collect the advance recycle eco-fee on all electrical and electronic equipment from all exporting countries and to establish the state of the art recycling facility at Agbogbloshie in Accra and construction will begin in April, not only are we solving the problem of waste disposal, this will also lead to the creation of over 20,000 direct jobs."

President Akufo-Addo reiterated his commitment to making Accra and Ghana clean at the end of his tenure.

"In 2019 apart from educating and sensitising people we intend to use the by-laws to enforce cleanliness, the Ministry of Justice and Sanitation are working together to try sanitation cases."

"We're launching a national sanitation brigade to help us carry this out and through this vehicle, we will not only keep our towns and cities clean but we will also provide jobs for our young people."
