The head of Ghana Music Rights Organisation (GHAMRO), Rex Omar, has described the Deputy Minister of Tourism's promise to train musicians as lacking credibility.

Earlier this week, Mark Okraku-Mantey in an interview with Hitz FM was asked by a viewer what he had planned for the struggling up-and-coming artistes in Ghana.

He answered that the government has a deal with the British Council to train the trainers of music.

By 'training the trainers', he meant that music producers like Richie and Kaywa, will be trained then they pass it on to the upcoming artistes.

It will be more like snowballing, he said.

But reacting to the promise, Rex Omar said he believes that the comment by the Deputy Minister of Tourism is a political talk.

He told Hitz FM in a telephone conversation that the British Council does not deal with such issues hence the minister has to explain further how the British Council is involved in the training of upcoming artistes.

The GHAMRO chairman in his submissions, however, agreed that the workers of the music industry are undoubtedly in need of training.

“Obviously yes our industry needs technological transfer and training, but if he says they have a deal with the British Council to train the trainers I think he should have explained it further.

"Because so far as I am concerned the British Council does not train musicians or sound engineers. Because they are not set up to do those kinds of things. They can be a conduit to bring maybe some British professionals to train our people. So maybe he has to come clearer otherwise I will just call it a political talk”, Rex Omar stated.
