2017 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards’ Artiste of the Year, Joe Mettle has disclosed that he used to hustle by selling "Waakye leaves" at a very tender age just to support his family financially.
 According to gospel musician, Joe Mettle who spoke in an interview on Accra-based Rainbow Radio, he started selling at the age of 16 just to survive. He said selling ‘waakye leaves’ wasn't easy but he had to do that to help the business, which was run by his mother, grow.
The ‘Bo Noo Ni’ hitmaker said:
"I sold it before going to school. When I was on the afternoon shift, I sold in the morning. When I was on the morning shift, I sold after school but due to the nature of the job, I woke up very early in the morning to go and sellâ€.
Joe Mettle added that he had no option than to help his mother since he was aware of their situation. He has worked as a backing vocalist for the likes of Danny Nettey, Reverend Tom Bright Davies and Cindy Thompson.
The gospel star, born Joseph Oscar Mettle is currently battling with Sarkodie, Shatta Wale, Stonebwoy and the late Ebony Reigns for the 2018 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards ‘Artiste of the Year’ title.
Joe Mettle, whose ‘Bo Noo Ni’ has been described as one of the top gospel songs in Ghana at the moment, released the ‘God of Miracle’ album last year. Some have asserted that he is likely to win the VGMA Artiste of the Year award again this year.
