Deputy Minister for Tourism, Arts, and Culture, Mark Okraku-Mantey, has said the media is critical for the growth of Ghana's tourism.
Speaking about the upcoming December In Ghana event, the Deputy Minister stated that without the support of the media, tourism in Ghana won’t go very far.
On Thursday, October 4 2021 in an interview on the DaybreakHitz on Hitz FM, the Deputy Minister mentioned that due to Covid-19 the plan to have Beyond the Return in 2020 was halted.
However, ‘December in Ghana’ has been designed to replace Beyond the Return, he said.
December In Ghana is expected to throw light on the activities that will be happening in Ghana during Christmas, he added.
He further explained that the main beneficiaries of tourism are mostly the private sector. And the media finds itself in that sector, hence must do better to promote tourism to profit more.
"Tourism is used to attract people into the country. When people like Ludacris come to Ghana for tourism it gives the media content to write and talk about," he said.

He, however, mentioned Atinka TV and Joy FM among others as the few media houses that he believes have been promoting tourism with some of their programmes.
