40 communities in the Northern, Savannah and North East regions have been given boreholes by the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) Foundation.

This gesture by the GNPC is to address the issue of water shortage and access to potable water faced by these communities.

The foundation said it was set to construct 120 boreholes this year in the three northern regions to address the lack of access to potable water in needy communities in these regions.

In a short handing over ceremony in Kanshegu n the Savelugu Municipality in the Northern Region, Mr Dominic Eduah who is the Executive Director of the GNPC Foundation, said the provision of the boreholes was based on a need assessment of the communities.

He added that the communities that benefited from the boreholes see this as a priority to lessen their plight of having to trek long distances in search of water for drinking and household chores.

He further disclosed that the GNPC Foundation is aimed at helping three main areas of our society, namely education and training, economic empowerment and environment and social amenities.

This he said is aimed at improving development in our deprived communities.

Mr Salifu Saeed who is the Northern Regional Minister expressed gratitude to GNPC for their kind gesture as he believes this will go a long way to improve on the standard of living of the people.
