President Akufo-Addo will today, October 16 visit the districts severely hit by the floods occasioned by the spillage of the Akosombo Dam.

The President will be joined by members of the Inter-Ministerial Committee set up by the government to help address the havoc caused downstream by the Akosombo Dam spillage and to help bring relief to those affected.

The tour will enable the President and the committee to assess the destruction caused by the flood and its effect on the people in the various communities.

Flooding due to the spillage has forced many communities in the North, South, and Central Tongu districts of the Volta Region to evacuate, leaving them with no choice but to try and save what’s left of their belongings.

Apart from assessing the impact of the floods at firsthand, the President is also expected to announce measures to bring relief to the flood victims.

President Akufo-Addo on October 13 established an inter-ministerial committee tasked with addressing the issues arising from the spillage and providing essential relief to the affected communities and regions.

The committee is headed by the Chief of Staff, Akosua Frema Osei-Opare.

The other committee members include ministers from National Security, Interior, Defence, Energy, Finance, Local Government, Works and Housing, Roads and Highways, Environment, Sanitation, Lands and Natural Resources and Information.
