The Vice President and NPP flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has announced that kidney dialysis in the country will be free under the National Health Insurance Scheme from December 1, 2024.

This comes after a successful pilot programme that offered free kidney dialysis for patients aged 60 and above, as well as those under 18 years.

"So, many people have kidney problems and need dialysis but this dialysis is so expensive that many people cannot afford…So, 6 months ago, we started a pilot programme to bring [down] the cost of dialysis under the National Health Insurance. So persons over 60 and under 18, for the last six months, had dialysis under National Health Insurance for free," he said this when he addressed stakeholders at Suame as part of his tour of the Ashanti Region on November 10.

"We are bringing the pilot to an end, so, from December 1, 2024, all kidney dialysis patients will have the dialysis free under the National Health Insurance Scheme”, Dr. Bawumia promised.
