Reports of a gruesome murder of a 12-year-old boy on the evening of Sunday, August 29 in the Volta Region, has upped the tally of bizarre killings linked to ritual activities.

A 25-year-old resident of Mafi Dove in the Central Tongu District of the Volta Region killed the young boy allegedly on the instruction of a 'prophetess' and has since been arrested, reports indicate.

3 News reports that the Battor Aveyime Police Command picked up the yet-to-be-identified suspect.

“According to residents, the incident happened late Sunday night, after a drumming competition among a section of residents following the burial of one of their own.

“Unit Committee Chairman Amos Alorse tells TV3, the sound of screaming residents drew their attention to the area.

“Upon questioning, the suspect allegedly confessed to being sent by one prophetess, Floda Ekpe, to provide her with a human head for some rituals,” the report said.

The suspect took the head of the 12-year-old to the prophetess and dumped the rest of the body in a nearby waterbody.

Residents reportedly traced the blood trails from the severed head to the prayer camp run by the prophetess and broke into the structure, where the suspect and the human head were found.

Ghanaians have in recent times woken up to unfortunate news of gruesome murders inspired by ritual activities.

Two weeks ago, the alleged murder of two young boys by a 28-year-old man caused a stir among the public.

Richard Appiah has been described as a cannibal by some newspapers after dead bodies were discovered in a refrigerator at his residence in Alaska, a suburb of Abesim in the Sunyani Municipality.

Not long ago in Kasoa, teenagers confessed to killing a pregnant woman before killing a 10-year-old boy as part of rituals in their quest to become rich and famous.
