The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) and Ghana Police Service are searching for an auctioneer who failed to account for the disposal of government vehicles totalling GHC30,000.

The auctioneer is reported to have sold some of the cars for as low as GHC350.

Director in Charge of Health Administration and Support Services at the Ghana Health Service(GHS), Kofi Opoku, told the PAC on Thursday that the issue was reported to the Ministries Police Station after several attempts to recover the money were unsuccessful.

Mr. Kofi Opoku also informed the committee the said auctioneer was recuperating at a health facility in the Volta Region.

Chairman of PAC, James Klutse Avedzi, observed the committee’s actions are yielding dividend, contrary to criticisms it’s only a talkshop which has been unable to retrieve millions of cedis found to have been misappropriated by state officials.

He cited the payment of an amount of GHC61, 800 by the Ghana Health Service (GHS) to the non-tax revenue account of the Bank of Ghana.

The money belonging to government had been sitting in the account of the GHS for over a year. It was only paid when officials of the GHS were called to appear before the PAC.

Mr Avedzi made it clear that the Ministry of Health would be made to pay interest on the GHS61,800 for the period the money was kept.
