The Ayawaso Commission of Inquiry probing the violence that marred the by-election on January 31, 2019, will bring the hearing of witnesses’ accounts to an end today, Friday, March 8, 2019.
Executive Secretary to the commission Dr. Kofi Ernest Abotsi yesterday released a statement that said they will be a meeting with the press today.
The meeting with the press would serve as a forum to answer important questions pertaining to the work of the commission.
The meeting, it said, would also be used to make known to the public the next line of activities for the commission after the public hearings.
Reports suggest that there are four more witnesses expected to appear before the Commission.
The remaining witnesses are Mohammed Suleimana, a member of the National Security SWAT team; Nathaniel Tengey, Mr. Delali Kwesi Brempong’s housekeeper, and James Moore and Mohammed Alhassan, both victims of the violence.
The Commission had earlier announced that it was going to end it sitting yesterday March 7 but extended it by a day.
The Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election on January 31, 2019, was characterized by violence.
This led to the shooting and subsequently the injury of some 13 people believed to be NDC members.
This made the President set up a Commission of Inquiry to probe the incident.
The Commission is chaired by a former Commissioner of the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), Justice Emile Short.
Legal expert Prof Henrietta Mensah Bonsu and Mr. Patrick K. Acheampong, a former IGP, are members of the Commission.
The Commission was given a month to submit its report to the President.
