DSP Samuel Azugu who is the head of the National Security SWAT team, says his men acted unprofessionally in the wake of the Ayawaso by-election violence.

A team of 25 policemen and 35 civilian operatives stormed the La Bawaleshie residence of the NDC Candidate Delali Brempong where there were some chaos that led to a shooting incident during the Ayawaso by-election.

Mr Azugu said although his men were doing their job, they acted unprofessionally.

"During the incident, we arrested some men, some resisted the arrest and decided to run, my boys pounced on them and that one I will admit that my boys overreacted:'

"I asked my men to fire some warning shots and it was only six rounds"

"My men did not handle the issue in a professional manner, the way we taught them, my men used maximum force which was too much"

The shooting resulted in the injury of some 13 people said to be NDC members and the assault of MP for Ningo Prampram Samuel George.

Last week, key individuals including the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Jean Mensah; Minister of State in charge of National Security, Byran Acheampong, East Legon District Police Commander; National Security Minister, Kan Dapaah; Minister of Interior, Ambrose Dery, DSP George Lysander Asare among other police officers.
